The Pool Therapist, a Staten Island-based company for nearly 28 years, was recently hired by the NYPD as a pool consultant for the department’s academy.
“The mission of my business is about keeping people safe,” said Stu Roaker, founder and owner of the Staten Island-headquartered enterprise that serves the New York tri-state area. “My arrangement with the Police Department benefits all New Yorkers, as the 135,000-gallon NYPD Academy pool in Queens is used for the training of new recruits, and as a venue for preparing existing units in critical skills such as water rescue.”
A consumer-safety advocate and past president of the National Pool Management Association, Roaker has embraced safety as a tenet of his business since entering the swimming pool industry three decades ago.
His work with the NYPD aims to ensure the academy’s pool is optimally safe and compliant with regulatory guidelines.
“There can be no compromise when it comes to the quality of pool construction, workmanship, parts, products, lifeguarding or maintenance,” insists Roaker, whose work mainly focuses on gunite swimming pools. “My customers know they can depend upon me to do my best to make sure everything is perfect.”
And his clients agree. “When it came time to enhancing the performance and safety of my pool at home, I chose the Pool Therapist knowing I could rely on Stu’s expertise and top-notch work,” said New York City-based urban planner Phil Rampulla, a specialist in land-use matters.
